You Asked: “What Are The Bathrooms Like in Residence?”

We Answered: Great question! This is the kind of question that if left unanswered can lead to some serious pre-frosh week anxiety attacks.

Fear not, the bathrooms at Queen’s aren’t nearly as bad as you might have heard, and some are downright nice.

It’s pretty difficult to summarize what all bathrooms in the residence system are like, since they vary greatly. In most rezes you’ll find shared, single sex washrooms. For example, in Gord Brock, most floors have shared, single sex washrooms with three or four washroom stalls (they don’t close all the way to the ground) plus a couple of showers (some even have baths). Word of the wise: avoid the baths at all costs – they are typically used to a) store hockey equipment b) grow mould.

Other ideas:

In Vic and Chown Halls, you’ll find single washrooms. These have a shower (or tub) and a toilet / sink all enclosed in one room. These are great for privacy.

In the newer residences, two rooms share a washroom. Meaning you’ll only have your suitemate to share the facilities with.

Overall, washrooms get increasingly messier – hitting a peak gross factor on Sunday night. Cleaners arrive Monday morning to take care of the weekend festivities. Be sure to bring flip flops and a shower tote, so that you and your stuff touch as little of the washroom as possible. You’ll get strong thigh muscles from squatting on the toilets, and you’ll appreciate that extra plush cottonelle when you go home on breaks! Bathrooms in rez really aren’t that bad, and you get used to the conditions quickly.

What to expect where:

Adelaide: shared (single sex)
Ban Righ: shared (single sex)
Chown: private and shared
Gord / Brock: shared (single sex)
Vic: private washrooms and showers
Watts / Leggett: shared with suitemate (two rooms share a bathroom / shower)
Jean Royce: shared
McNeil: shared (single sex)
Morris: shared (single sex)
Leonard: shared (single sex)
Waldron: shared (single sex) + each room has a sink
