ban righ cafeteria Ban Righ cafeteria is connected to the Ban Righ residence hall and is pretty centrally located on campus.
The meal plans at Queen's are all you can eat (unless you are on West Campus), so you will be spending a lot of your time in first year in either Ban Righ or Leonard Caf. Ban Righ is the older of the two cafs, it's huge and bright, and sort of reminds me of the big dining hall in Harry Potter. I was a vegetarian in first year (vegan for a while) and had no problem finding more than enough food to eat, and to put on the freshman 15 pounds. Interestingly, Sodexo (the company that runs the caf) list all the nutrition information for the food, so you can really try and be careful about WHAT you end up eating. In addition to the regular food selection (pasta, burger, entrees, dessert, fruit, etc. etc.) they have these rotating pace changer meals where someone like a sushi chef will come in and prepare all kinds of sushi for a day, or a carvery chef with all kinds of good quality meat, or even something like a make your own cupcake bar. They are a fun change of pace to beat the chicken burger blahs. Ban Righ also has this big waffle maker and icecream bar, so if you are in the mood for packing on the pounds, you can make waffles with icecream and bananas .. oh those were the days. Ban Righ also has a big nacho bar too, so you can load up chips and salsa and cheese and toppings and get fat just by looking at the stuff. Hell .. why move out of rez when you have all that glorious food and mountains of it. Alright, enough of me plugging the food in rez. I loved it, but lots of people don't. I've heard from more than a few meat eaters that the meat leaves a little something to be desired. To be honest, it looks kind of gross. And rumour has it, that the Sodexo service in the Queen's caf is a quality level of four, and the Kingston prison system enjoys level five food. Fact or fiction? Who knows -- but regardless, the food is plentiful and you don't have to cook it. Trust me, you'll be eating a lot worse when you move out of residence and realise you spent all your food money on beer at the QP and lottery tickets.
