campus haunts

One of the main reasons that we've made this site is to let you know about some of the university's best kept secrets. While there is no doubt that you'll stumble upon (and out of ) the QP numerous times, there are some off the beaten track places like the bowels of Botterel Hall that are worth exploring sooner than later, and some that are worth leaving unexplored.

The Bowels of Botterell Hall: This does not have a name that we know of, but it’s located in the bowels of Botterell hall and it’s a cafeteria, hence the moniker. The staff there are super friendly, and they make good grilled-cheese sandwiches with pickles.

Campus Fry Truck: Just like the 'Queen's Sucks' guy, you can't avoid the Campus Fry Truck. The smell of trans fat drifts across campus and into your lecture hall, begging, pleading with you to clog your arteries. And then you do, because no one can resist poutine with ground beef on top.

Campus One Stop: CV (College Variety) recently changed it's name to Campus One Stop, however the food and the service is still the same. Okay, fine, this is an on campus convenience store selling packaged sandwiches and twizzlers, but Jimmy and crew make it more of an institution than your average corner 7-11. Try their Brie & Apricot take-out sandwiches and sit outside KCVI with the high school kids. With a pack of M&Ms for dessert, life just doesn't get much better.

Goodes Hall Café: Located in Goodes Hall, beside the Student lounge is a tiny cafe with good food and great service. They only accept cash or flex dollars, and the nearest ATM is in the JDUC, however the lady working there will make sure you don't go hungry. You can always pay her tomorrow! They serve soup, pre-made sandwiches (all are VERY good), Viva Blanca Coffee, doughnuts, and have a toaster to heat up bread or bagels. They usually have some fresh fruit and salads. Watch out for the faulty coffee machine though, one of them won't stop pouring once you start it. I think it's the French Vanilla. Avoid.

Lazy Scholar: This year the lazy scholar opened. Rez express is now closed and the bottom floor of Vic Hall has been transformed into a the coolest cafeteria you have ever seen. Open from 7:30 a.m. until 1 a.m. seven days a week and accepting flex bucks like there's no tomorrow, the lazy scholar has pizza, sandwiches, a grill and various convenience type items. Additionally, it has a full service coffee / espresso bar, flat screen tvs, a pool table, and wicked interior design and lighting. Overall, not too shabby!

Mackintosh-Corry Cafeteria: if you have extra flex dollars, or cash to burn, you could go to Mac-Corry’s Cafeteria. This cafeteria, located as it's name suggests, right smack in the middle of Mac-Corry offers a decent selection of take out options for any meal. The breakfast selections from the Firehouse Grill are actually quite decent, and for only a couple of bucks you can have a hearty pancake, egg, sausage kind of dealie. The coffee is okay (they do serve fair trade) and they carry Starbucks coffee too if you are so inclined. They also have a Pita Pit (lines are long at lunch) and a Pizza Pizza, along with the usual sandwich, salad, and fruit to go kind of options. There is also a selection of dried up old sushi- if you have a craving, this will suffice. The caf offers views of the parking lot and some hedges. Feel free to sit and study or watch the squirrels chase each other.

The Sidewalk Cafe: Located on the first floor of the JDUC, the sidewalk cafe is a convenient place to grab a quick meal on campus. There is a Tim Horton's here (serving coffee and doughnuts, little more), a Pizza Pizza, and a Firehouse Grill. Additionally, they offer soups, sandwiches, and drinks to go. This location only accepts cash and flex dollars which gets pretty annoying, however there are TD Bank machines right outside the cafe.

The Subway Cart: On the first floor of the JDUC between the hours of 11am and 2pm the Subway cart magically appears, serving wonderful, fresh subs to the masses of hungry students. This location only takes cash, but the service is fast and friendly, and there are lots of places to curl up in the JDUC with a sub and a free newspaper.
